Duroc Pork

My local butcher shop recently started carrying Duroc Pork, price is approximately $1.00 more per pound. I tried a couple racks of baby backs. From my experience they were more tender and juicy than the standard fare.
Interested in the thoughts of others on the breed. Do you seek out this meat and if so what premium do you over plain old everyday pork?

My father in law made some thick cut duroc pork chops that were the best pork I've ever had. Nice and marbled, tender..
Since then, I definitely respect duroc. -

Remember Brandon from the quad cities who cooked at several PeoriaEggfests? He was a big fan of all Duroc pork and used to rave about their superiorty. A couple years be brought me some of their bacon and terrific sausages. He did some demo egg cooks for the supplier which was the farm itself and they gave him all sorts of their Duroc products.
So I'll ask again...Alwans or Pottstown?Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time -
It is a superior product. Worth it.Sandy Springs & Dawsonville Ga

RRP said:Alwan's or Pottstown?@RRP:I had to look up those names, they seem to be establishments in Peoria, IL. That is not my neck of the woods. This pork is for sale at a Fareway Meat Market (not a full Fareway supermarket) near me. It is not in Illinois, although I would assume Fareway there also carries it.

Excuse me! I thought you were another egger who lived in Peoria, near where I live. He used a similiar moniker on the old BGE site.Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time

@RRP:No worries! I've been around the old and new sites past dozen years or so. More a lurker than a poster, the old two ears and one mouth thing. I've learnt much from you and many others on the site(s).LBGE, LBGE-PTR, 22" Weber, Coleman 413GGreat Plains, USA

Duroc is definitely worth the extra buck. I raised and slaughtered a couple of Durocs a couple of years back. Dam good stuff.

I did some duroc baby backs from a grocery store a couple weeks ago. They were cryovacced like most ribs are. Went to pull the membrane and they weren’t there. They were already pulled which is odd. Usually they aren’t. I was impressed. Very good.NW IOWA
