1st MiniMax Cook tomorrow

Well I've been holding off using the Minimax because we are still in temporary apartment living. Tomorrow is my little dudes 8th birthday and since this egg is more for him than me we have waited to use it. But tomorrow we are surprising him with it and to break it in I have decided to swing by on my way home from work tonight and grab a Wagyu Steak. Any pointers as I am used to my large. Do all the same principles apply? Lump to fire ring or do I need to fill it a tad lower? Its just going to be used to cook the 1 steak. I'll be using Rockwood of course. How are flare ups on this thing since the lump is so close?

the only think I notice different between my XL and MM is the time it comes to temp yes the vent setting are a little bit different but not much. As far as flare ups if your going to sear your steak say 700+ you must burp for an extended period of time I like at least 5 seconds if you have a glove I would wear it because when I get my steak on CI grad close to the fire and its at 700 or above I always tend to get a bit of a flare up after the burp I use an extra long set of tongs. Besides that it uses less lump I always fill the KAB and then to the top of the fire ring and RW all the way. from 250-300 to 700+ plus I remove SW cap and keep vent and screen wide open probably 10 minutes time before she is screaming and ready. Enjoy the cook and the MMLong Island NY

Well little chef got his minimax today for his birthday. 1st cook was a wagyu strip. Turned out great. He’s super excited to be like dad. We even got him a shirt. And no we did not cook inside.

I still remember the times grilling with my Dad on Saturday afternoons. Like said above, cherish these time they will go in a blink of a eye.
Be careful when following the masses. Sometimes the M is silent.
