I’ve used my Smobot once and noticed how little lump it used compared to my blower based Auber controller. I was very impressed.

I didn’t know Nakedwhiz was still active.  I am a big fan of the Smobot, but unlike this review, I normally keep my bottom vent no more than 1/4 open. Just from my experience, it is less likely to overshoot.  Here is a recent butt cook where I had bottom vent maybe 1.5 inches open.  That thing held steady like a champ ...

I have to admit, I was really surprised at the 32% longer burn for the same amount of charcoal!  Does that mean it makes grilling more environmentally friendly??

I was already aware it gets on temperature at least as fast as blowers.

Can you use the Smobot when it is raining or snowing?  The review said that the Smobot is not waterproof. So if you are cooking overnight and it rains or snows how does that affect the top unit?

I see this in the review, page 1:

• The control unit is plastic and should be protected from the elements.
• The damper can be exposed to water and can be used in the rain with the servo rain protector.

Just get a large pipe vent cap 8" to cover it.

I have a ziplock bag and cloths clip on the servo and place a glass cake pan over the controller when it is going to rain

From their website "The SMOBOT damper can be exposed to water and can be used in the rain.  The SMOBOT control unit should be protected from the elements.  We suggest using a plastic bag or container to keep the rain/snow off of your unit if you are using it in inclement weather."

I use this to keep my controller protectedAnd Smobot sells little rubber caps that will give protection to your servo motor.  They are $3 each

Here is the link for it on amazon ..  I've been very pleased with this case.  I think it would be cool if Smobot sold something like this that is waterproof and had their logo on it.

Love my smobot,going to buy a second one for my medium egg,I purchased a small 4x6 canopy at Wal-Mart for my cooking area,keeps all my eggs out of the rain,think it only cost $40.
