Using the plate setter and raised grill from my small BGE in the large BGE the Vortex comes to the perfect height.

I like your thinking. Have you tried this before? My only concern in the coating on the grid where the lump is going to sit. I've had to make a warranty claim in the past where I had the coating come off the cooking grid. Hopefully it isn't an issue for you.

Well to be honest I haven't used that raised grid in years. I built it when I thought is was a good idea. Grids are cheap. You could put a charcoal grate under the Vortex also to protect it if you want.
