BGE Planter

Major benefits over a standard planter:
- Stainless steel drainage port with micro-fine adjustability.
- Graphite impregnated fiberglass cushion on top edge, preventing chaffing of plant stalks.
- Natural color blends in with existing foliage.
- Space-age ceramics absorb excess soil moisture.
- Excellent heat retention, maintains soil temperatures on cool nights.
- Heavy weight construction, discourages theft.
- The snob factor, unlikely any of your neighbours have one!

Shown below is the Large model, other sizes available.  Reports indicate there is excess inventory in the XL size, negotiate pricing accordingly.

Totally agree. I’m using my old large base to grow jalepenos!

I didn't know BGE sold planters.  How much does one of those go for?

Get a hold of @RRP for a gasket for your flower pots.  I see OP has a Rutland already.  Well played.

Same question as above; Is it necessary to drill holes for drainage?  I have a Large base that I'm thinking of using as a tomato plant pot next season.  Tomatoes like lots of soil, lots of water, and good drainage.

I’m watching this.  We have an XL base laying around doing nothing.  The drainage issue had me thinking holes were needed, but the hairline crack might get bigger.  Maybe some silicone sealant on the crack would help.  🤷‍♂️

I've been using my cracked large base as a planter for 2 years now - I put a pot inside the base, raised on a stone so that I would not have to fill the entire base with soil. No drainage holes and it's been rained in plenty of times. No standing water either.

My original post touches on drainage: "Stainless steel drainage port with micro-fine adjustability".

I do have an update, first Gardenia bloom appeared few days ago.  And it smells fabulous!  More buds are ready to pop anytime now.  Gardenias are finicky for me to grow, this one seems to like the BGE!
