MMM Clean and Strip wheel in a drill is what I have always used. Peel the old gasket off with a putty knife first

I used acetone. Nasty stuff but it worked well.Large Egg, PGS A40 gasser.

By the way, has anyone put it on the top instead of the bottom? Any reason I shouldn't?I have one on my LBGE which I have been happy with, but I now have a second LBGE and am going to upgrade that gasket as well. I'm thinking of putting it on the top instead of the bottom because my JoeTisserie seems to fit better that way.Thanks for any top mounting tips!LBGE/Maryland

From what I've read, one3 of the reasons some folks don't mount the gasket on top is they don't like the idea of Rutland fibers falling from a gasket on the top down onto their food. Also, also, putting it on the base is a LOT easier than putting it on the top. I suspect the last reason is why most folks don't put it on the top.

Thanks. Currently I just have the OEM gasket on the top (lower one peeled off) and by odd chance the joetisserie fits so much nicer than on my Rutland egg. It’s snug and air tight. I have a new Rutland from RRP waiting to be mounted, but I think I’ll wait until I destroy the native gasket... which will likely be after the first pizza cook. 😀

Just to take that reason one more step: for use on the dome it's much easier if you remove the dome, but some people are not comfortable at all messing with the bands risking re-alinement issues.
