Old egg vs new egg

So..... I have 2 XL eggs and a LG. I'm selling my large and going for a 3rd XL. Someone locally here (in Dallas) is selling an XL for cheap, but it's a very old model (the top isn't as tall).  In GREAT shape but clearly older.

Anyone have this? Feedback? Worth it or wait for a newer version?

I have both styles.  I got the one on the right first (I guess thats obvious :)).  I like the flatter dome for grilling and pizza.  I theorize that the heat reflects back on the food and pizza better that way.  Plus its cool to have a different one.  I hope I never have to warranty the dome, I like it that way.
  • Awesome to hear coming from someone that has both.  I do a lot of smoking, like, a LOT. I see the capacity isn't the same and the internals are for the most part interchangeable yes?? Anything else different you compensate for?

The dome is the only difference.  Actually, the fire box and/or ring is taller, so the cooking grid sits a little taller, maybe an inch.  The base is identical.  The picture paints the illusion the newer one is taller, but its the nest/wheel height creating the illusion.

  • Great feedback. I will give it a couple of runs and see how we do. I got such an incredible price if things don't work out I will have no problem handing it off to someone else.
