WTB original fire grate for XL

Hi guys,
well, the fire grate for my XL is starting to break. My fear is that it will collapse mid-cooking and with the weight of the grate plus the heat and weight of the charcoal it could break or damage the bottom of my egg.
So, if someone wants to part with their fire grate because they use the KAB or knows where to buy the original XL grate, it would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Local Dealer. In stock item will save you the big shipping cost.
This thing is fairly big and real heavy for the XL.Thank you,DarianGalveston Texas -
How old is your XL? I believe it has a 5 year warranty on it"The pig is an amazing animal. You feed a pig an apple and it makes bacon. Let's see Michael Phelps do that" - Jim Gaffigan

Buy a hi que or a kick ash basket. Enjoy faster heat ups and easier lower temp cooks.

I have a big fat crack in my fire grate that almost goes the whole way across it. I've been using it this way for many years. I have a replacement piece but have never switched it out. You should have many years yet before that crack gets worse"The pig is an amazing animal. You feed a pig an apple and it makes bacon. Let's see Michael Phelps do that" - Jim Gaffigan

Thanks for your responses, forgot to tell you that I'm in Mexico and warranty does not apply as in the US, the cost of the grate here is $90 dollars with local dealer.
Thanks again -

I really fear for the safety of my egg in case of a catastrophic failure -
$50 for high que, as suggested up above:
https://www.high-que.com/Stainless-High-Heat-Charcoal-Fire-Grate-Upgrade-for-X-Large-Big-Green-Egg-Grill--17-dia_p_30.html
This works as well, same size as XL fire grate:

$16 bucks here in Merica, should be available somewhere there down south. But charcoal falling through your grate should not damage your egg in a cook. But its your egg, not mine, so go with your gut. Personally I would be fine cooking that way. I use KABs on my XLs, but leave the original grate in place.

Yea, being in Mexico was a curve ball.
Check others like Weber. I think the charcoal grate for the Weber 22" Kettle grill fits the XL.Thank you,DarianGalveston Texas -
I bought a replacement from amazon that looked like the original. I am still using but it is warped and much thinner. I am thinking a kick ash basket or high que is in order.
-
Thanks guys!!!
I'll look into the high-que, but I'm not willing to spend 120 bucks in a fire grate. -

not worried about the charcoal itself falling and damaging but worried about the actual original grate itself breaking and falling into the egg bottom and breaking it.
Thanks! -

22.5 Weber grate at home depot is about $10 and is actually 18". Just use one of those......or get two, crosshatch them, and weld together.
That's what I used for many years before the kab came out -

i have one to sell. I can mail it as a gift with value of zero.send me an email. oops, looks like I am late to the party.XL BGE and Kamado Joe Jr.

little update
I now use the new firegrate along with the original one.
The new firegrate alone lets A LOT of air thru and the fire goes uncontrollable at times.
-
You control the airflow through the fire grate with the lower draft door. If you're having a problems with the high temps, you need to close the lower draft door, daisy wheel, and check the gasket for leaks or the base for cracks.
I used a 22.5 Weber grate for years and now run a kick ash basket......no problem maintain 225F.....except when the dome was out of alignment or my base cracked in two places -

Get a higher quality charcoal grate from Michael's Custom Grill Works: http://michaelscustomgrillworks.com
He makes them out of super-strong 3/8" stainless steel rods.

I emailed over and over that guy and NEVER ever once received a response. I would never shop from michaelscustomgrillworks.com
Also, going by heliguy's post history, he comes on the forums here and there to push things sold off of michaelscustomgrillworks.com
total roll of the dice and MANY people have had similar luck contacting him, just search for the website
