Advice: Storing Egg long term

So we are in the process of selling our current home and building a new one. There will be a 4-7 month time frame in between when we will be temporarily in an apartment. They do not allow grills so it appears right now I will have to store the egg in a climate controlled storage unit with 2/3rds of our stuff. Is the best course of action to do a full clean burn until all the lump is gone then shop vac it clean? Should I leave it intact sitting in the nest or should I take the egg apart? Can I expect mold growth if I do the clean burn?

I would sell it so it's one less thing to worry about, honestly. When you move into your new home you may find that you really do want that XL after-all 😎

I have thought about this. That may be the route I take. I Gotta figure out exactly what I'm doing with the outdoor kitchen design also.

The best thing I ever did was walking into a local Outdoor Kitchen retailer. A few days later I had detailed CAD drawings emailed to me for free based on what I was wanting/hoping to do and the space available. Things like shut off valves & ventilation (if there's gas), access doors to plumping (that you can actually squeeze into for repairs) would would have been a disaster had I designed it myself.

I had my first large in storage for a year when I was in an apartment. No clean burns or anything, it was climate controlled. Rolled it out and fired it up no issues when we emptied the unit.

A few years ago, I spent about 3 months away from home. I did nothing with the egg, just drove away. When I returned, I had a few white fuzzy splotches, but nothing major. I just lit it until it was gone. July thru September as I recall so some humidity.

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

I don't think you need to worry about mold growth if there is no moisture inside. If it is inside I would just leave the daisy wheel and cap off and the bottom vent open and I am sure it will be fine.

Which came first the chicken or the egg?  I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

i would burn it to atleast get the grease out, it might stink up other things in the storage unit. other than that theres nothing not easily fixed from storing indoors

Leave the bottom and top vents wide open. Or just do a clean burn when you move into the new house. Shouldn’t take much more than that.

Mold needs food and moisture to grow. The leftover organic material is the food mold needs. A clean burn will reduce the organic material. The climate controlled storage unit should be reducing the moisture to control mold growth. Leftover food can also attract other critters. Depending on the storage unit, it would be helpful to have the egg clean before storing.

Do a final pizza cook the day before the move. Good food and clean egg all at once.
