1st Butt - Maverick Question

Unknown
edited November -1 in EggHead Forum
I started an 8-lber about 45 mins ago and the dome temp seams stable at around 230-240, however, my new Maverick ET-73 is reading a smoker temp of 242 (its clipped on the grate away for direct heat. It was reading about 15 degrees less than dome for a while, but now is steadily above dome.

As I understand, the grate temp is generally 30-40 degress less than dome temp, but mine is actually higer. Also, this is only my 5th time Egging so I'm not sure if the BBE thermometer would be off at such an early stage.

Who to trust - BGE or Maverick? I'd always put my stock in BGE, but any thoughts or advice would be helpful. I don't want to mess this up on the first go around.

Thanks in advance -
