I’ve got a copper Atlas that has been great so far.

Love my Peugeot except when I'm elbow deep in raw meat and need to season.

Interesting thread. Never really thought about buying refillable salt and pepper grinders. I always just buy the ones in the grocery stores and throw them away when they are done. Where are you guys buying your refill peppercorns or salts?Large and Small BGECentral, IL

I have several pepper mills (6-8?) and one of them looks similar to that Atlas except nickel plated, not brass. Seems to be a quality piece, but I can't stand it! I almost never use the thing. A pain to refill and the crank makes it wobble all over the place. Plus, I can't get to grind coarsely enough to suit. To refill, you have to remove two nuts, the crank arm and the top cap. And reassemble to the same position to get the grind you had before. No thankee!
My favorite mill is a piece of junk. Found it in the markdown section at TJ Maxx (before there was a Home Goods). Made of bamboo with a plastic grinding mechanism. Cost a buck I think, maybe two! I just thought it looked cool. Probably had it 20 years now. Always the one I reach for first.saluki2007 said:Interesting thread. Had this battery powered Trudeau Graviti from Williams Sonoma for about 9 years. Still going strong and we like that it can be used with one hand (unlike magnum unicorn which sounds like it requires 2 handed operation)

I'm kind of in the market...using one of the manual grinders from Costco sucks when you're grinding 1/4 cup of pepper for dalmatian rub. I'm hesitant to go battery powered though, because it seems like something like this, used infrequently, is destined to have the batteries leak in it.

Use a spice mill for bulk grinding.______________________________________________I love lamp.. -
