yeah so like the title says I’m watching curling on NBCSN, and can’t help but be glued to the tv.  Maybe it’s because of all the pain meds I’m on or the fact I can’t find the remote!!!but I’m hooked.   How the heck is this an Olympic sport?

It's way harder than it looks on TV. Felt like I got ran over by a bus the next morning after curling. You bend and use all types of muscles you don't typically use on an average day. It would be a fun to join a league. I don't think it's very cheap though

I watch curling one every four years, and that's enough for me. But for those two weeks, it's all I really care about.

@Battleborn - I'm right there.  The only thing I will watch at the Winter Olympics.  And this year even the Gold Medal match was delayed a couple of hours (til 3AM EST).  Good ol NBC-WTF?
    Stay safe out there.

Throw in the Hallmark channel, especially the Holiday movies, and it would qualify as cruel and unusual punishment.

Anna Sidorova is a Russian, and was in the Olympics.

I think I'd stick with your pain meds and find some beach volleyball instead of curling.  Good luck with your recovery, for whatever you're on pain meds for.

@blasting had my 4th back surgery on Tuesday.  It was a “fix” of some broken hardware a a few more disc to repair. Unfortunate he said it didn’t go as expected and he couldn’t redo the hardware for whatever reason, so another surgery will be coming up.

Pain and recovery for an unsuccessful surgery - that's gotta suck.  Hopefully the next one goes as planned for you.

I often wonder how it "does not go as expected" on procedures like this.

Does the surgeon need to place a parts order in and say I need 3 of these, 4 of those, one of this and 6 screws? Then after he opens you up and gets to work finds that the did not need three of the first thing, but four?
"Ooops...  Thought I needed 3. Abort...."
DR to patient: "Well @ryantt we got in there, and... well....  there were some things that happened that were not expected, (thinking in his head, "I screwed up and ordered 3 and not for thingys) so we are going to have to do another surgery later...."

Or maybe a rod has to go in and they do not have the correct length? Is there a parts store in the hospital?  "Damn, I needed a 26mm rod, not a 22mm"
Nurse runs to the 26mm parts bin and it is empty...

I suppose if vitals start falling out of perfect range, or maybe (s)he starts to feel ill and thinks they may not make it through the entire thing, but I would think they would know, check, recheck and have another independently check what may need to be done to make sure they have everything that they might possibly need.

Regardless of reason, that was not the news I was expecting @ryantt I hope you recover quickly, and you have perfect results next time!

@Sea2Ski basically what happened is the amount of damage as he put it did not allow for placement of new hardwear.  When I broke off some of the old stuff it created a”mess”.  He did what he could to remove pressure off the nerves and revise some scare tissue.   He packed some areas with ground up cadaver bone and some hormone to promote bone growth.
In the future there is some other procedure that requires my neurosurgeon, a vascular surgeon and a general surgeon to do.  They will go in via my abdomen and fuse me from the front.   It’s a very long and complicated procedure that requires a great deal of time under and coordination of the team.  It is going to be our last option.
At 37yrs old I’m  out of options which scares the crap out of me. I am a realist and know that a big part of my issues have been brought on by poor choices.  I was always the guy in the weight room trying to put another couple plates on the rack, always the guy to use power instead of technique at wresting and bjj tournaments.   I tested my body doing flips off the roof on to a trampoline then into the pool.  These have lead to a lot of issues I have today and thst s ok, I can deal woth it.   Just wish I would have thought about my choices when I was younger.

@ryantt that truly sucks.  Hopefully given the reduction in what they performed the recovery is faster.  Also, the next one should be considered warranty work, like that's gonna happen.
Best of luck with the recovery.  More time to learn from Norah Grace.

That’s a true statement.   She’s being such a big help.  It’s hard to believe how much she’s doing, getting up in the middle of the night to make sure I’m ok and have water, making dinner for us and just doing what she can to take care of me.   Her mom and I are so lucky.   She comes down stairs and just checks on us now that I’m home. It’s amazing how much she sacrifices for us.

@ryantt it sounds like you have some very entertaining stories you could tell.
Our previous days put together all make up a path which leads us to where we are today. I am glad that it sounds like you have very few regrets when you look in your rear view mirror. It sounds like you lived life to this point at and in every opportunity. Bravo! After all, you only get one life.  Live it!

I hope all future steps on you path are solid, even,  and pain free.

Again, hoping you have a quick recovery.

@ryantt sorry to hear about the bad situation, but it sounds like you appreciate the blessing you have and they are plentiful.

Heal well, and mix in a bourbon or two on those pain meds and the curling will get a little more interesting.

    Hang in there.
