OT - Best Mouse Trap Ever

I typically don't get into too many off-topic threads but I wanted to share a new mouse trap I made that works all year.

I put a few inches of RV anti-freeze in the bottom of a garbage can and spread peanut butter on the side (with a few sunflower seeds). The mice lean in, fall in and drown. I've used water before but some mice have enough traction (even after spraying the sides with cooking oil) to climb out. RV anti-freeze keeps their feet slippery, stays liquid in the cold and is ground water safe if you want to dig a hole and dump the critters after 6 months of being pickled.

    Not enough meat....

I actually put them on a garbage bag so I could throw them away.

It's been a bad year for mice. I pulled my snow blower out and I saw 8 mice fleeing it.

Cats do quite a trick on mice where I live ;)
Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win.  Life is too short for light/lite beer!  Seems I'm livin in a transitional period.

I'm a cat guy but I also feed the birds and I can't bait birds in as the cat is killing them. Maybe a cat could be trained, maybe not.

The 10 mice are 1 week and I had 9 more the week prior. The mice are moving in for the winter.

Interesting.  Are you digging the trash bin into the ground, or do the mice climb up the outside?

I was wondering the same thing.

I have a previous gen trap that just zaps them.  It take 4 D cells so it is an indoor trap, but it is quite effective.  A text would be nice.  I have to go look at the trap to see if the light is blinking.

you can use a 5 gal bucket and take an old beer can and stuff a stiff piece of wire through it and duct tape the wire to the top of the bucket. Smear the peanut butter to the can and they crawl across the wire and on to the can and the can rolls over, mouse falls into can.

I'd be worried about a dog getting into it (antifreeze smells sweet) and knocking it over.   :s

So there is an app for THAT as well? Gotta think you might want to silence that incoming text  message if you are in a high power meeting!   =)

I don't have pets but last year, a big critter got into my shed and ate all of the mice over the winter. Here is my fix. I cut a diagonal into a piece of plywood.
I also have the Victor electrocuting trap with so-so results.

Here is my setup I have in my garage. Being I have no pets, I don't have a lid.

Over the last month, I have gotten 22 mice. Three weeks ago, I got 9. Two weeks ago, I got 10. This week, I got three. My mouse population is finally getting under control. I live in the country and wanted to let them be but they got in my house after chewing the insulation around my air conditioner line and doing some damage to my snowblower. Now, they must die.....
