  • ever since I watched the Alton Brown episode on French Onion Soup it has made me want to try one from scratch.  Although, your sourdough has me more intrigued you are becoming quite the bread master.

The soup looks epic.  ......maybe someday......

Man, that looks good! LOVE French onion soup! Never made any though.

A few months ago, I found a couple of these at a junk shop.

I also have a pile of ramekins if I wanted smaller portions. Best intentions, but I still haven't made the soup. Maybe this will push me over the edge!
I got mine in an estate sale. Get off your rear and cook this. You won’t regret it.

That's got to win some type of award for the most inefficient way to melt cheese on the planet. Still worth it.  Looks mighty tasty.

Never tried French Onion on the egg, will have to give it a go soon... made this indoors using the broiler last winter. Not near as fun I imagine. Topped with Comte cheese.

@SonVolt Different vessels but, they both get you to the destination. In the egg with the temp bumped to 500+ and then brought back to 450ish using indirect heat.  Getting them up in the dome a bit you get the benefit of the baking and the heat vortex that rolls off the dome gives a bit of the broiling without 100% direct (you get the idea).

    Thank You🔪🔥🍳😁
Now, to properly plagiarize you must dress up and speak like Julia Child whilst drinking bourbon.  Notice I didn't post any selfies right?...my apron pics are still floating around & my inner Julia Child wasn't gonna get leaked. Pics or it didn't happen

As tempting a challenge as that is. NOBODY wants to see me in drag, however I can definitely do the bourbon and maybe pull off the voice. Look for a video cook after TG. Glad your back btw

Because this looks amazing!  I reread my first post as being overly abrasive.

  • Looks delicious Blake. French Onion soup is my favorite. It ranks right up there with chili.

  • We really liked this so we made it today. A few changes, we added a teaspoon of bacon grease and garlic. We also used smoked Gouda. It turned out great and thanks
