JoeTisserie question: Do I need to put a gasket on it
My Jotisserie arrived today and I just now started wondering if I need to get a gasket and apply it to the JT before cooking.

Nope. Egg on.

I don't think you need to do that. Just be advised that you are going to get some escaping smoke, but I don't think that hurts anything. I push the coals to the back of the Egg and use the CGS Kick Ash Basket Divider to concentrate the coals. I also put an aluminum drip pan in front of the divider to catch some of the grease that falls.Tampa Bay, Florida

I don't use a rotisserie often. But when I do, it's on the kettle. Gasket?
I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Let's just say that several people have put a gasket on the top of their Jotisserie, but then what do I know?

I would try it before you do anything. I have done two cooks with my big joetisserie without a gasket, and I did not have a problem.

I use a rotisserie on my Weber kettle. No gaskets. Rotisserie cooking is all about radiant heat anyway. Many folks don't even bother putting the lid on.Michiana, South of the border.

I tried it about 4 times and finally gave up and pulled it off. Yes, you'll get some escaping smoke but temps hold fine and really no issues without the gasket. As a side note, in the process of testing the gasket I went from the old style top hinge to the new hinge setup. The new hinge setup is what made me pull the gasket off of the 'tisserie. Gasket worked OK with the old hinge, still not needed, but with the new hinge design the gasket actually caused more air gap and was not good.Kirkland, TN2 LBGE, 1 MM

Somehow, I knew this would get defensive.
My $0.02 is try without it, then do something if you feel you need it for fit. You don’t need it for seal.
Love you bro! -

I don't need it on my XL.
