New egg, cracked base

Hey Guys,

my egg is coming up on about one year old. After making steaks tonight, I noticed a small crack under the front vent. Is it best to go through my dealer , or try to contact BGE directly.

Also, is there anything I might have done to cause this? We have gotten a fair amount of rain recently, not sure if that would have anything to do with it.

Thanks

Dallas, TX

I would start with my dealer but I have a great dealer who keeps a big inventory and handles warranty claims quickly.

  • What @R2Egg2Q said. The preferred method is through the dealer.

Could be caused by something you did. Maybe not. Sometimes ceramics have a mind of their own and just crack.

  • It was not something you did! are there any oh don't do this or that in the BGE instructions? well other than don't drop your egg or let it fall over. Yes start with dealer, it's very smart to have a great dealer relationship that you support financially purchasing from them so they can have a profitable business and by doing so they will be happy to help you at times like this. Good luck and Egg On!

  • Definitely not a crisis situation.  I'd say you have time before this one splits in half.

  • Well I go straight through BGE for claims. My dealer is a joke when it comes to warranty work. When my firebox cracked, he didn’t think it was covered. He had to look it up because he didn’t believe me. And the claim was filed. Six months later, I contacted Bruce from BGE and I had my firebox in a week. I can’t blame it all on the dealer though, I think the regional BGE rep for this area is more to blame.

My I got my XL last Christmas and it’s cracked exactly the same. It’s never moved from where it sits, so I think this is probably a common thing. I went through my dealer for the warranty and the new base just cand in. It took 3 weeks or so
