Hello from Melbourne
Long time forum member, but almost as long off-line. I had a BGE given to me by a few friends back in 2003. Still have it, but it's moved from Toronto, to Ottawa, and now in Melbourne Australia.
I used to joke I moved to Australia to teach Aussies how to BBQ, but the days of an Aussie BBQ meaning frying on a flat plate outside is starting to be replaced by proper hardwood charcoal direct and off-set BBQs.
The characteristics of the charcoal here are different than I was used to in Canada. Maple hardwood charcoal out of Quebec is hard to beat. Most of the wood here is a variant of gum trees, tends to take longer to light and has a much higher ash content. Now that I'm used to it, it's fine.
Cheers,
DR

Welcome back!Is charcoal made from coconut available in Australia? Seems like it would be since its made not far from Australia.I've used it some years ago (might actually still have a box in the shed) and it was fine but couldn't really say if it is any better than what you are already using.“Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away.” ― Philip K. Welcome. I am an Ottawa resident. Hope you got away prior to the tornado hit that has descended upon the Ottawa area in the past few days. Haven’t been to Melbourne but have coordinated extensively with some counterparts in Australia.
