Building BGE Large table....need large cover dimensions first?

Hello,

I'm starting to design my BGE large table (the Egg will be offset to the left) but am wondering if there is a baseline set of dimensions that I should go by so that the cover that I get will fit nicely over the new Egg and table?  I are all grill covers (for the offset design) create equal?  Or should I buy the cover that I want and then take the dimensions from that?

Any suggestions would be very helpful.

Thanks!

  • Thanks for the link pgprescott.  I've got that link in my files also....but am wondering the dimensions of these BGE table covers that are on the market.  I can't seem to find anything on the various table cover websites as to the dimensions of where the 'peak' or stack of the cover is in relationship to either end of the table.  (ie....how far from the left side of the table do I put the center of the hole for the grill so that stack of the cover fits over the stack on the grill).

  • Thanks pgprescott....that is very helpful.  I assume most of these grill covers that are fitted for this type of grill/table configuration are all very similar.  So I'll go with the measurement in that diagram as a baseline.

If you can wait till this weekend, I can get you measurements of a BGE acacia wood table with a Large egg that's on display at a dealer. The standard BGE Large table cover matches it.  It's easier than measuring the cover.

  • Hope this helps. I have this table and the cover fits perfectly.

Wish I would have bought my cover first. Built my table with hole at 41 inches to center from right side. It should have been at around 37 inches.

I purchased the cover first just to be certain.  I ended up buying this cover for large egg table I built.  I can check the table dimensions tonight if you’d like.

  • Thanks everybody for your very helpful posts.  I appreciate all the comments and suggestions.

Marainwa...I really like that cover you suggested...and ironically the picture of your table that you posted is pretty much the same type of table that I have designed (in my head at least).  Would you happen to have any plans for that particular table design?
  • Marainwa...one other question about your table...specifically with the barn door.  I don't see a bottom track for that door so does it swing kind of sloppy when you're trying to open/close it?  Or does it slide pretty smooth?

I know most barn door style doors don't have bottom tracks but I've never really operated one either so not sure how 'loose' they are.  Maybe it's just me being anal retentive! :)
  • Another question for you folks....I'm planning on installing casters on the bottom of my new BGE (large) table when I'm finished building it.  Since this will be outside on my deck fully exposed to wet conditions (rain and snow) does anybody have suggestions on really good outdoor casters?

I started a post when I built the table and it goes into further detail about the build, barn door track, etc.  I do have a sketch design that I made, as well as parts lists.  PM me and I'll send you the details and the sketchup design.  I did install a small Z shaped piece of metal that holds the door steady, exactly for the reason you mentioned ( I'm anal retentive also).  I put fabric on the inside of the metal so that it wouldn't catch on the door.
