Planned to make pulled pork over night . Store didn’t have any pork butts, all they had was pork shoulder roasts . Got a 7 pounder . “Butcher” 16 year old kid didn’t know diff or if this will make good pulled pork. Seems very soft and fatty . Will this make me some decent pulled pork or will it be a disaster ?

If it’s fatty you should be fine

Unless I am missing something, isn’t pork shoulder and pork butt different names for the same thing?Pittsburgh, PA. LBGE

If its from high on the shoulder. The lower part (upper arm) is sometimes called a shoulder roast. More often it's called a picnic roast. There's no confusing a pork butt and a picnic roast because they are shaped differently.Flint, Michigan

Shopping tip: When shopping for pork butts, get the loosest, sloppiest one(s) you can. Those are the best ones imho.Flint, Michigan

I would assume you bought a normal pork butt. Posting a picture would help if you want

You've more than likely have yourself a "butt" my friend.
Typically the butt in stores are half of a whole butt.
The shoulder includes the butt and picnic though.------------------------------
