Ceramic Damper Top

Question: I Egged a Turkey Breast on my small egg. I pull the breast, take off Cast daisy lid, replace with my Ceramic Damper Top and totally shut off the lower vent. I go back outside 2-4 hours later to put the cover on and see about a six inch drip from the top. I take off the lid and it looked like creosote on the underside. Not mopped or running just gooey. I washed it in Dawn in the sink. It dried and now looks like rust. It’s dry. It doesn’t rub off just rusty. Has anyone ran into this? I have only had the small egg 5-7 years.
Thanks
Thanks
