Maybe FB can respond but I’ll add my 2 cents.  The display would be nice, but shouldn’t be needed.  FB has issues over Thanksgiving with monitoring the cook due to huge server load issues.  While this was disappointing, the egg genius seemed to keep the pit and meat temps that were already set (again would want FB to confirm).  

I thinki n a future gen that they should have a port that you could connect a local controller (which they could sell separate). 

I really like like the egg genius for my long overnight cooks.

Yes both the 400 or EG will hold whatever you last had it set at.....whether it loses power momentarily or the connection.

Hi, with the next firmware update and app update you will be able to connect directly to your Egg Genius or Flame Boss 400 even if you have no Internet connection. It will not require you to buy anything else. I am happy to hear that you like the Egg Genius.

Idk if this is what the update was, but when I go to the “account” tab in the egg app, up top left it says, “Mode”. There you can click direct connect, but it doesn’t save your graphs.

I just tried this, and it seems to work. 

Plugged in my FB200v2 and it installed the latest firmware update in a few minutes.

Opened the app on my phone.

 Go to Account, click on Mode in the upper left corner.

A pop up asks whether you want to switch to Direct Connect,  then walks you through how to switch the controller to AP Mode. 

Pretty easy. Thanks @MichaelCollins !
