Costco Brisket - What's Up?
Webass
Posts: 259
Last two briskets I've gotten at Costco were primes at 2.99 and 3.49. Last time I checked a couple weeks ago their primes were $3.99. Yesterday I was in and their case was full of choice whole briskets for $5.39! I know beef's been moving up lately but that's a really big jump.
Anyone else seen this?

The choice ones in my store that are that price are just the flats.

I paid $3.59 yesterday. Most I’ve ever paid at Costco

Our Costco just started carrying Prime packer Briskets and I bought one a week ago for $3.99/lb. I was in there a few days ago and they still had lots of them for the same price. Mine was the best brisket cook I have ever done and am looking forward to buying one again next time I am ready to cook one.

Our Costco has gone from 2.99/lb last fall to 3.99/lb (about two weeks ago on my last trip there)Memphis, TN

As above, the likely inflated choice price is for the trimmed flats. And yes the price has gone up recently but I have seen it that high before, then drop. FWIW-
Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period. CHEETO (aka Agent Orange) makes Nixon look like a saint. -
Restaurant Depot is worth a look for brisket. Usually 3.49 for Angus.

Hell I can’t even find a prime around here.

You might want to call around. My local Costco has prime briskets but none of the others around do. Some of the others have things regularly that mine doesn’t have like halal meat at one. They stock stuff based on what sells and luckily it’s a little more country up where I am.steel_egg said:Hell I can’t even find a prime around here. -
I'm seeing 3.99 at most ATL Costcos. I find their beef good quality, but unfortunately they are keeping a ton of fat on the packers and it's inflating the price. My 12 pounder this weekend had just over 4 pounds of hard fat (not the kind that will render) so there went $16 before I could cook it.
But it tasted great, just have to factor the fat content into the price and final meat yield if planning for a large group.Milton, GA

Man I guess we are just spoiled down here in Texas. Our Costco in Rockwall always has dozens of Prime Packers and they are always $2.99 a pound or less. The only ones that I've seen that were $4.99 a pound were the SRF Wagyu Briskets they keep in stock. The problem I generally run into down here is not a matter of if I can find a brisket. But if I can find one small enough. I just don't ever have a desire or need to cook a 15lb Brisket. I don't currently have a good way to freeze them and I don't have huge parties all the time. I wish they would stock more in the 8-12lb range.
