Smokeware cap

I bought a smokeware cap for my LBGE during their 4th of July sale.  My egg is only 6 weeks old, do I need to replace my gasket with theirs, add the smokeware gasket so there is 2 of them, or just use the egg gasket and replace it when the eggs is worn out?

All you need is 1 gasket and if the original gasket seals the cap you are good. Does not have to be real tight.
    Thank you,

  • Like Photo Egg said, the old gasket might work. Mine didn't, it was too worn out already.

If it does work, save the gasket that comes with it. Those gaskets wear out over time. I just replaced my Smokeware gasket last week after about a year.

My egg is only 6 weeks old and the gasket is in good shape still.  If it doesn't have to seal really tight I will just leave it for now and save the gasket for when its replacement time.

Does your SS base spin after you mount it or does it mount nice and tight on the egg?

I actually had the same question and just used the one that came on the egg.  My egg was brand new when the Smokeware cap went on.  It now only spins a little on the bottom if I get build up around the vents.

I'll double check this afternoon, but I think it spins.

If I removed the BGE gasket and replaced it with the smokeware gasket, towards the base like smokeware recommends would it effect the daisy wheels performance should I decide to use that?

  • @KGilma2018 no the daisy wheel will still set back on there.

Just want to make sure if I can change it and don't like the smokeware cap I won't have to buy another gasket to use the daisy wheel again.

My BGE is pre-top gasket, so I used the smokeware gasket.  I'm not sure I could get the smokeware base off of there even if I wanted to.

Same here, my eggs are from 2005/2006.  Just installed Smokeware caps this weekend and they are tight!!  I can get the cap off though, which is needed when running my Smobot.

It spins freely. It isn't tight at all.

Had the same problem. I stacked my gaskets and offset the gaskets where the ends meet. It’s nice and tight now. I just had to stretch the new gasket when I put it below the old one to thin it out a little.

Guess I will just add the SW gasket below the BGE and it should fit nice and tight.

Haven’t used my daisy wheel in almost a year.  Love the smoke ware cap.  I would get the flat cap too. Eggcellent quality.

It's super tight now that I put the other gasket on it.
