Been looking for a used egg as a gift for younger brother.
Saw this  http://www.primogrill.com/en-us/the-primo-kamado-sale
For $800.00 seems like a good deal.  But what am I missing other than is not green and a BGE?

I have a Primo Round and it is my workhorse for 3-4 years now. They are well built, and compared to my mini max and mini, the quality is close, and the warranty is great.

The big drawback that I discovered is that it is not quite as versatile as BGE for multi level cooking. The firebox is taller in the primo, so many of the accessories for the large BGE do not work with the Primo very well, if at all. Multi level can still be done with DIY mods, but there is less vertical room to work with in the Primo. Its been irritating at times, but not that big of a deal. Even before I had multiple cookers, I rarely really needed the extra room.

I am happy with it overall, and if I had to do over again I would consider BGE because of the versatility. But if purchasing the Primo the savings could go towards a Mini Max or a Small which is a great pairing with the large.

A good portion of the cost of any brand of ceramic kamado is for the warranty.  Compare the warranty of the different brands and decide if you think there is any significant difference and what that is worth to you.  Primo states "Limited Lifetime Warranty Backed by a Twenty (20) year guarantee on all ceramic parts." I don't know what a lifetime warranty is in the context of the 20 year statement.

In cooking, often we implement steps for which we have no explanations other than ‘that’s what everybody else does’ or ‘that’s what I have been told.’  Dare to think for yourself.
