We had the fat tire festival here last weekend. Got to demo a Niner jet 9 rdo, now I am saving my pennies to get one.

Had that brain shock rebuilt, then blew it up at the fest as well.

The Jet9 is an awesome all around bike, it can handle rowdy trails but efficient enough to pedal all day. I rode one in an endurance race a couple of years ago (bike shop lent it to me while my RIP9 frame was in for warranty) and it was a great bike. The race was 45 miles with 9k feet of climbing and took me almost 9 hours (lost my rear brakes at the peak so that killed my time, had to take the downhill easy).

JET9 after a long, muddy day.

Since I like to hit bike parks and tend to ride more aggressively I prefer the RIP9 but it’s a big bike and not for everyone.

    My RIP9

There’s a ton of great bikes out there these days, I always suggest demoing a few before committing.

I rode 3 or 4 different ones at the fest, including a rip 9. I don't hit bike parks and we mostly have xc trails around here or I would be all over it

@milesvdustin- too bad your so far away this one is going up for sale soon

Needs a few tweaks first to be ready for next owner.

Ah, cool. Definitely makes your purchase easier to swallow when you know you chose the right one. Everyone I know who has the JET9 absolutely loves it.

If you can get your hands on a ShockWiz I recommend using one to dial in your suspension. It’s a little computer you hook up to your fork/rear shock and takes 100 readings per second. After so many miles and types of riding/terrain you get suggestions on what to tweak. Shops rent them, I bought one and currently have it on my rear shock.

The RIP pedals pretty dang well for a 160mm/150mm travel bike, we have to climb a lot here in So Cal so I spend a decent amount of time doing just that and never wish I had less bike on the downs. Even with Maxxis Minion DHF 2.5wt front and Minion DHRII 2.4wt tires on it my bike is just a little over 28lbs.

The rip did pedal very nicely! If I was into jump parks and such it would be my front runner

Good call on not reusing the old parts tech has come sooooo far.  The rip is on my radar right now.  Jensenusa.com has some good deals on some some closeout models (like 30% off)

Well, I dug my old K2 zed x frame out, and I was going to swap everything over to that frame and rock the old hardtail. That frame took me all over many states and many many trails. But I got the email back saying they would warranty the shock rebuild for my specialized so the swap is on hold now.

I'm going to get some new brakes (xt) and I'll be ready to roll again. The old as dirt hayes hfx mags I have now are crap, and i can get into new xt setup for about 40 bucks more than rebuilding both hayes. I bled the hayes out multiple times and ultimately i get lever to bar, no fluid leak I can see.

Awesome, i rock a hardtail on the weekly, but as I get older my knees and back are asking for some more squish.

I was lucky enough to ride a couple of days this week. The weather is perfect for this time of year.

Got my new brakes finally, and had my rear shock rebuilt a second time. The stock shimano bleed seems very squishy

Do you have a bleed kit? Pretty simple to bleed Shimono brakes.

Been green with envy watching this thread for past 18 months while I couldn't ride. Now that I can, I went out and got myself a Xmas present as my Voodoo is really showing some wear. Was looking for a 2019 but none to be had. They'd just gotten this 2020 in and built the night before, and it was in my size! Shop owners' are friends and made me a deal, left it there for them to to set up tubeless and order the pedals I wanted.

While we were picking mine up last week I noticed this. Brand new 2018 demo that had never been ridden because of the small frame size. My wife: 1) is vertically challenged, and; 2) has been talking about getting a full squish bike. Talked her into riding it and first lap around the parking lot I knew she was hooked. And we got a screaming deal on it.

Of course it started raining the day we picked mine up and the trails haven't dried since. Always the way it goes ha ha. Dried up enough that we were able to at least hit some bumpy country roads with them. Feels good to be on the bike after 18 month layoff.

Good for you getting back on it!

Love the gumwall tires on yours.. and your wife’s bike is a beast if that’s her first full squish.

Gave them a bleed, couple small bubbles out of the reservoir at the lever. They stop, but the bottom of the lever travel is still squishy. Is that normal or should it be rock solid?

Kept my day off (I piggyback off every 3 day weekend with an extra day off to mountain bike) and got out for a 14mi 1700’ of climbing ride. So glad I have rad trails that I can ride to from home.

They shouldn't be squishy.  Probably some air in the system.  But if they will lock up before full handle travel, it is something you could live with.

Agree, but I couldn’t live with anything less than optimum performance out of brakes on a mtb. If still feeling squishy I would re-bleed to get any air out.

Picked up my first full suspension and carbon fiber bike.  Got an amazing deal in Moab on a 2019 cannondale bad habit right before everything shut down. It’s a lot of fun and pedals amazing.  I can’t believe I waited so long to make this upgrade jump.

Got out for a ride today with my buddy who has been on a 6yr hiatus from riding. He was demoing a Yeti SB130 Lunch Ride and I got to take it for a spin on a climb and short downhill. Dang is it a nice bike. I am in the market for a new frame and it is definitely on my short list.

Tried my damdest Sunday to loose a few tooth and/ or get some stiches in my lip while riding.

Everything was going well when I had a stupendous 0 mph crash stuck on a rock and proceeded to go sideways with the bike 6-8' off the trail into nothing.  As I lay on the ground face into dirt I thought well how many teeth are gone... no they all seem to be there, mmm taste of blood how bad is this... pulled phone out and took this pic and thought GTG it appears.

Got untangled from bike tried to stand and HOLY H3LL my thigh hurts... I'll spare you the pic of my thigh bruise.

I’ve gotten in ~40mi and ~5k of climbing in since Friday. Perfect way to blow off steam after a difficult week with my mother in law passing away last Wednesday.
