Roasting coffee?

I'm not sure if I saw this or had a dream about it -

Using a JoeTisserie with a modified basket in the middle to roast coffee beans. I have a few friends that get them green and roast they're own. I'm not a huge coffee guy but it seems like it could impart some good flavor into the beans. Has anyone seen this or tired it? Or have any thoughts on it?

Whoops, that posted and didn't want to.

There's a few guys I've seen on Instagram that are doing this with a modified roaster for their Joetissere and appears to be having good luck. 

@hapster had some from Bo Chavous.

On another note my wife smokes pre-roasted beans with amazen smoker and raves about it. I don't know, coffee aint my thing

If you live in Denver there is a local shop where you can buy raw beans. About $5-6 a pound from what I remember

I have purchased from Sweet Marias and roasted my own coffee beans.  I enjoyed it, but for me was a slow process as I had a small roaster I bought used.  The smell was incredible and just kind of moved away from it.  I'll have to try it again and appreciate all the resources posted above.

sctdg, thanks for the list.  I usually buy from Sweet Maria’s and Roastmasters.  I use a Behmor 1600.  Never gave roasting on the BGE a thought. Now you have me wondering about adding a smoke to the coffee bean.

I started with a Fresh Roast SR500 ,stepped up to the Behmor and installed the Plus Update . Now I'm roasting with with a HotTop B2k+ . Went to HotTop for more control over roast . Good cheap source of beans from that list is Happy Mug . They are out of PA. Sweet Maria's is always good and has good info about the beans . Roastmasters will give you advice on how to roast whatever beans you buy using your Behmor and good source for buying equipment . Nothing like roasting your own coffee . Kind of like BBQ .

Ever since a guy from my wife's company who is based in South America told me he has his own coffee plantation down there, roasting coffee has been floating around in my head....

Bo out in Augusta (Bo Chavous), makes some good roasted coffee from what I've been told....  He's been more than willing to share info as I've picked his brain a few times.  From what I understand, he has a KJ that is dedicated only to roasting coffee right now.....

I’ve been roasting my own coffee beans for over 10 years.  Great fun and decidedly great flavor!!  Buy green beans at Sweet Maria’s or U-Roastem.com.  Go to CoffeeGeek.com and check out their Forums (the one for beginners is a good start).  Everyone there seems to be willing to help and much knowledge is shared (much like this BGE Forum).  Hope you enjoy it as much as I have.
