Raised grids and bread

What do u guys use to raise your grids for raised direct cooks  ? I went to a BGE dealer who said she had never heard of any official product for that.

Also, I keep seeing all the posts on bread making . I’m completely unfamiliar with the sourdough starter process or baking on the egg in general . Can someone give me the basics ?

    I'm a big fan of the Ceramic Grill Store Adjustable Rig. There are several options ranging from bricks, screws, even empty beer cans, up to commercial products. Search the forums or Google images for some ideas.

    Call Ceramic Grill Store. I have the adjustable rig in one large and a woo in the other. Love them both

    I use a Weber grid with three 1/4" carriage bolts. Many use a Woo or Adjustable Rig from the Ceramic Grill Store. I can also do an indirect cook if I place a pizza stone on the lower grid. I originally (almost 9 years ago) bought a platesetter so I still use that for indirects. I recently noticed a crack in it so when it breaks, I'll go to the pizza stone. Here's my setup.

    I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

    +1 on what @CarolinaQ said.  I have used the DIY raised grid he described for quite a while.  I have an XL Woo now that virtually never comes out of the Egg, but I still use my DIY raised grid for multi-level cooks.  The CGS Adjustable Rig is the next item on my CGS hit list.

    I use 2 of the 1/2 stones from CGS with the Woo for indirect cooks, but I have a plate setter too.  I did bread a couple of times and pizzza almost every week before getting the Woo.  I went with plate setter with the legs down then 3 fire bricks with the XL pizza stone on top of that.

    Now that I have the Woo when I do pizza I go with the plate setter, legs down, with the Woo on top of the PS and the pizza stone on top of the Woo.

    Lots of ways to achieve a raised grid, these are what have worked for me.

    3 Beer Cans or bricks
    @CarolinaQ suggestion with the bolts
    @dmourati suggestion with Ceramic Grill Store's options. (My choice)
    Kamado Joe makes a system called Divide and Conquer system

    Your dealer is a doofus. Many options (as stated above) to raise the grid.

    Re: bread on the egg, you should ping @NPHuskerFL. Many others bake in the egg too, and will hopefully chime in.

  • What @caliking said.... AND BGE just came out with their own take on a multi-level grid solution https://biggreenegg.com/product/3-level-cooking-grid/ makes you kinda wonder a bit about that there dealer.

    I concur with @caliking your dealer is a doofus.  Or perhaps she's a newbie herself that is uneggucated on her product line. It would seem to me you would want to know anything and everything about your product to increase your bottom line but I'm just a HVAC guy what do I know.  I used a homemade rig for two level and raised grid cooking for years before I got my current setup.  Lots of options out there. Nowadays I use Smokeware's Grate Stacker.
