Thermometer went bad

In my last posted cook (adobo wings), I didn't mention this, but I had been puzzled by the fact that I had some trouble getting the Egg as hot as I had wanted, and then by the fact that they wings got plenty done despite the supposedly "too low" temperature.

It wasn't until the next day that it hit me: the thermometer was probably out of calibration!  So I pulled it out, and sure enough, it thought boiling water was only around 150°!  So I adjusted it till it said 212°.  But then I let it cool and put it in running tap water, and it seemed to think cool tap water was around 100°!  So it wasn't out of calibration, it just wasn't working right anymore.

So I now have two brand-new Tel-Tru thermometers in my Medium and Large Eggs (and they tested fine), and they're 3" diameter, now, so I can tell at least roughly where the temperature is by looking out the window!  :)

So, yeah, I know, we all know about this, but many years of "knowing" that my thermometers were fine left me not catching on for too long that they weren't fine, after all.  So one more Public Service Announcement we've all heard before: Check your thermometers once in a while!
