MM grates rusting, question for ya

I leave my grates out on the deck year round, they're exposed to snow ice and rain all the time. My BGE Large grates (oem and those I've purchased from CGS) do great, they maintain almost a 'seasoned' look with no rust. I keep other stainless items outside such as my blackstone griddle cover, which sees standing water quite often, it never rusts.
I have three MM grates (one is the OEM, one is a custom one from michaels custom, and the third is onlyfire 12" stainless). All claim to be 304, same material as my large grates and as my blackstone cover, yet they've always got corrosion or rust on them. I'm scratching my head as to why? thoughts?

Cook on them more. ?
That's my guess. That or keep them oiled. My grill grates also keep a seasoned look to them, but if it's been a while between cooks, I'll see rust.

Not 100% 304SS
It is not possible for 100% 304SS to rust that badly (it is the most resistant to corrosion).
That grate may in fact have "some" 304SS but, likely also has a ferrous binder. If a magnet sticks at all you'll have your answer.LBGE 2013 & MM 2014Die Hard HUSKER & BRONCO FANFlying Low & Slow in "Da Burg" FL -
I store mine in the MM. Regardless, not sure its a good idea to leave the out in the elements...(insects, rust, stain on surface from run off etc.). Not trying to be a smart-ass here....just think the best preventative is also a best practice.Ellijay GA with a Medium & MiniMax
