That is honestly the worst Sub movie made. If you want a realistic look at life in a long black cylinder full of seamen, watch Down Periscope.

I didn’t know so many people smoke on a submarine.

@thetrim- as with all things there is evolution.  Used to be that you could smoke anywhere, then only in the atmosphere control equipment spaces (to minimize the impact I guess) and for that past few years (2011)-not at all. (A little longer ride than an airplane flight).
BTW- when one of the pieces of equipment (there were two) that managed/controlled the ships' CO2 level became OOC, the instant action was to ban all smoking shipboard.  Always had the greatest and most enthusiastic response to getting it back on line.  Can't imagine why.
Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win.  Life is too short for light/lite beer!  Seems I'm livin in a transitional period.

I'm going to raise a glass to my Great Uncle Clyde Graves who is on Eternal Patrol with the crew of the USS Bullhead SS332.

I would've lost a lot of money betting that would be your thought on that movie.

There was one particular scene from Down Periscope that was pretty solid.  (If we're thinking of the same movie)

Is Periscope depth really 78 feet?

PD depends on the boat. It’s deeper on a Trident than a 688 because the Tridents hull diameter is bigger. I have no idea what it is on a Virginia class but I imagine it is similar to a 688.

Happy Anniversary, as a surface sailor and Airedale there is no way I could do a deployment on one of those sinking tubes. My BIL was a submariner and hearing some of his stories makes me cringe. Drink to the foam, Skipper and the rest of you bubbleheads
