OT Meater probe

If there was one thing that went totally awry with my brisket cook it was the Meater.  I was using it in link and cloud mode.  I used an old Note 4 Edge as the relay device.  On a previous cook of a rotisserie chicken the connection was flawless.  The only issue was Meaters software missed how much carryover there was in the bird.  167 instead of 165 oh well.

This time the connection went down more than a 2 bit umm "relaxation specialist".  I initially assumed that was due to the foil I'd put around the flat.  Things got only slightly better when the foil came off.  Another issue was again Meaters code trying to give an estimate.  It might be fine for things that don't stall but now I'm wondering if trying to figure out the stall broke it.  My estimates went from 2.5 hours to over 11 hours to finally the thing giving up and claiming to be trying to figure out when the cook would be done.

After 10 hours in the connection died for the final time and couldn't be revived.  I tried opening the egg and putting the phone next to the probe and nada.  I pulled the probe, washed it off and still nothing.  After leaving it in the charger for a few hours it now is pairing with the phone.  I'm not wondering if perhaps the battery that was supposed to last 24 hours only lasts that way under very specific conditions.  The probe only lasted 10 (and the probe went in after the cook had been going a few while) hours and three minutes.  There is no battery status indicator on the device, its charger or in the app.  Further there is no setting in the app for low battery warning.

For the time being I think the probe going to relegated to things that will be cooking in less than 10 hours.

The initial estimate:

Another estimate (notice something off with their time tracking?)

The last estimate while in the stall

It finally gave up on estimates

It lasted 10 hours 9 minutes and 29 seconds.  At least it graphed the stall and start of the recovery before going tango uniform.
