Ham bone soup beans. About as simple and southern as you can get.

Smoked a ham on Sunday and saved the bone for soup beans today. Simmered all day with a bit of olive oil, black pepper, dash of hot sauce and for thickener, I just smashed up some of the beans and added them back to the pot. Good stuff and the ham bone gives the beans a wonderful flavor.

Looks delicious! I'm a big fan of ham and bean soup. Over the years I have tweaked my own recipe and I look forward more to the left over ham besides the bone which I leave loaded with ham than the initial ham meal itself! BTW I recently made 7 pints myself! It freezes so well and makes a great week night Winter meal.

This rocks. I purchase the bean soup mix from Honey Baked Ham. I use with the HBH on occasion....but use with any hambone...for a great mixed bean soup.

Thank you. Wish I had been smart enough to make extra to freeze, but this batch will be gone by tomorrow.

This is our go to for leftover ham bone.  We always leave plenty of ham on the bone. Follow the recipe as written. It's simple and delicious.  Our cooking preference is in the slow cooker on Hi for 5 hours.

^^That's the beans and recipe I follow when making it in the slow cooker as well.^^
What's different for us is the plating.  It goes like this: Buttered white bread, then the soup beans, then diced raw onions, then bottled chili sauce, then salt and pepper, all piled up.  Wonderful.
I like my butt rubbed and my pork pulled.

Gotta have cornbread for soup beans and cornbread-a mountain staple. Always used dried beans soaked over night and cooked a while in cast iron makes the best. In a pinch a crock pot will do.
