OT - So the eating healthier has started.

So the eating better again thing has started. It is not going to be a strict diet kinda thing, just eating more healthy.
Today's lunch was especially good, and creative if I say so myself. I made a broccoli salad with finely diced broccoli, red onion and golden raisins and made a dressing of three parts plain Greek yogurt, one part mayo and a drizzle of apple cider vinegar. The Greek yogurt was to cut back on some of the calories instead of using all mayo for the dressing. Then, while making the salad, I noticed some nice, golden delicious apples right there in a basket on the counter and decided, why not? So I sliced the apple, put about half of it on the plate and topped it with the salad. The apple was a very nice, and tasty compliment to the broccoli salad. I like throwing stuff like this together. Think it will be the same tonight, along with some grilled, boneless, skinless chicken breasts.

That looks good.  You know, as much as I love pizza, hot wings, pork sandwiches, etc a really good crisp apple or a fresh salad can actually be very good.  It's all about balance.

I made sweet potato fries in the new Air Fryer(Christmas present). Lightly coated them with coconut oil and Chinese 5 Spice. They turned out pretty good but there are no pictures. Next up will be a Pauls Deen roasted cauliflower head coated in: Dijon mustard, mayo, and parmesan cheese. I'm still eating on the sirloin roast that I Egged earlier.
  • Looks good. Don’t forget the (lean) protein with every meal.

I’m quite active and am not a big guy, but when I recently decided to lose some weight, the results paid off quickly. Lower cal, lower carb, high protein diet. Egg whites, veggies, light beers and general portion control. Don’t forget that when it comes to losing weight (if that is in fact your goal), it’s all about calorie intake vs. expenditure.

Lost about 12 pounds in 6 weeks or so while retaining lean muscle. Still ate the way I wanted on weekends with many, many treats - burgers, pizza, full fledged beer, etc. Lost only negligible strength in weightlifting during this period.

If you are looking to lose weight, calorie-counting apps can help keep you accountable and help you realize what you are consuming. The mere act of having to track caloric intake can often be enough to dissuade one from calorie-dense foods.

I put all of this aside while on vacation (and am therefore feeling the effects), but will resume come Monday. I genuinely look forward to getting back into it as the results felt so good.

Keep it up and it will absolutely pay off. If it doesn’t, simply cut calories further and you will know progress.

I have been thinking about one of those air fryers. Looks interesting.

Thanks. I have to lose a little weight, but mostly lower blood sugar numbers, which happen for me when I eat better, lower the bad carbs and get more active. Lean proteins, salads, more veggies and raw foods seem to help. Cutting out breads, pasta, grits, potatoes, rice, lots of things I love, helps too.

We're taking processed foods out of our diets and cutting way back on sugars.
Thanks for a bit of inspiration.

I agree. A nice salad and some fresh fruit do give a nice balance to all the grilled goodies. I have a friend who won't touch a salad. I think he is missing out.

That is a very good idea and is doable. I have been having to cut back on sugar for awhile now and when I get really serious about it I just plain feel better. Good luck, you can do it and still eat well. After awhile it becomes easier to pass up on cakes, desserts, sweets in general. Hardest thing for me was giving up sweet tea, but I don't really even miss it any more.
