My wife's grandmother used to make these with about 10 very thin layers. They were delicious.  Nice looking cake.

Same here, except it was my Mom. I'll have to see if she still has the recipe. I had forgotten. @ScottyTooHotty, nice looking cake! Thanks for the reminder!

@RedSkip that's definitely where I got the idea of making the apple stack cake.  Love that show, but I need some shine of my own

Very nice looking cake.  Have not had or thought about that cake since we left the East Coast.  
We used to go pick apples at an orchard in Martinsburg WVA... They were the very best apples ever.  Washington state apples pale in comparison.
