Personally I would buy the XL again any day of the week. However it is nice having multiple eggs going at the same time at different temps.

Everyone has different needs. That’s all. It is also the unit that has the most amount of gadgets etc available. I use both L and XL. I think they sell more L than all other size combined. At least it used to be the case. I have seen a significant uptick in the XL sales personally. It is true that we never hear “I wish I would have gotten the smaller one” ocassionally we will hear that in the other direction. Rarely, but it happens.Hans61 said:

I have large and xl. Both get equal use every time. If I use large, I use XL as my table and vice versa. No regrets. :-)

Went for the XL because I thought the large would not cut it. Only planning on one but you never know. Do not regret the decision. Learning a lot about controlling the temp and cooking different things. From the shores of Lake Michigan. Grand Haven.

Just got an XL couple weeks ago as my first egg and it has been amazing. It’s a work horse, I’ve used it everyday with the exception of a couple days. I’m sure all bge’s are great I just only have experience with my XL and very limited experience on my uncles L egg. If I could only have one it would definitely be the XL.XL BGE

That's related to the price point / percieved value for money. For a lot of people the step up to the XL is too big and they go L. Most of the people on here who have shelled out the extra for an XL would make the same choice again.pgprescott said:

Yep, like I said earlier, never get someone saying they wish they got the smaller one. Occasionally, we do get someone wishing they had gotten the larger one. Rarely, but it does happen. Price point is a factor, but not like it’s the factor. It’s one of the top two or three factors. Depends on the consumer and their real and perceived wants and needs.Eoin said:

I have an XL, large, medium, small and a mini and I have been cooking on Kamados for over 35 years. If I could only have one it would be the large. The height to width ratio is not the same on the XL as the rest. I like and use my XL but it's not my favorite.

XL all the way. For thanksgiving did 2 packer briskets and a pork butt all in 1 load. Looking to get a mini max now that we have a camper.

Isn't the choice of egg size mainly a function of how many people you are cooking for?
Myself, I'm one of three in our household including a toddler. I bought in July and selected the large. My lovely wife tried to persuade me to get a medium but I settled on the large arguing it was the more common size and would make accessories, tables, etc easier to purchase and that we might on occasion want to cook for larger groups. Both have been true.
With the addition of the Adjustable Rig, primarily bought to support a pizza steel higher in the dome, I feel like my capacity is at least double what I reasonably need even for the largest groups.
To me talking about size and capacity without the context of who you are cooking for makes little sense.

I have the AR on both the large and XL. I love both but if I had to pick XL all the way with AR.

You also have to take into consideration what you’re cooking. I don’t want to be foiling the ends of a packer brisket that overhang the platesetter. Same with full slabs of ribs as well. Or course you can work around those things with a large but I don’t like cramming my food together or performing Houdini acts like Anton’s packer on a medium when grilling/smoking. Grilled veggies take up a lot of real estate as well. There’s no replacement for displacement.dmourati said:Isn't the choice of egg size mainly a function of how many people you are cooking for?

Hey six egg that's making a statement there good gracious you got it packed up in there.
Thank you for the picture -
6 egg how long did it take for you to cook all of that I know the ribs were done first right?
-
@sirlancealot Thank You for your comments. Ribs were done in about 5 hours. Butts were maybe 8 or 9. I vacuum seal most of this food. Freeze it then send home with the kids when they come to visit.

I first bought a large. Then got an adjustable rig for a Christmas gift, honestly thought it was a waste of money since you can make a second grate or swing grate setup a lot cheaper. ALWAYS wondered if I should have gotten the XL. Got pretty good at making food on my large and then noticed family and friends coming for dinner more often, when they knew I was firing up the egg. Than we started vac sealing que for quick and easy meals to take to work for lunches or when we didn't fill like cooking. My parents live 3 hours from me and once they tasted my bbq would send request for when we came to visit. Then my mom shared with friends at her church, her preacher and a few more requests came in. Wife would take my BBQ to work for their holiday meals and request for my bbq came in. Starting noticing I was getting larger cuts, maxing out the large, cooking more and vac sealing for easy meals. Finally bought an XL at an Egg Fest 3 years ago. I now cook on my XL 99% of the time. If I had it to do over again...I would have two XL!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Agree. My first and only BGE is an XL, and it's usually just my wife and I eating from it.DoubleEgger said:

When we entertain / cook larger cuts, that extra real estate on the grate sure comes in handy.
