Ace Hardware commercial

National TV spot, Today Show I think, featured a BGE mixed in with their other grills. New or had I never noticed before? I think they were selling a Weber but I was focused on that shiny green thing.

  • I remember the first time I saw an Ace commercial that included BGEs (this past summer) I drove to both Ace stores closest to me, and there wasn’t an Egg in sight.

  • Well my local official BGE dealer, Blossman Gas, (think about that a minute), actually has a single medium on display. No accessories, no different sizes, nada. Not even a bag of lump in a corner. The best dealer is nearly an hour drive up into the country.

I haven't seen the market research, but it seems like most of their customers are introduced to them by other egg owners.

OT a tad, but I got my ACE Wrap It In Red Holiday Gift Guide in the mail yesterday and the BlackStone "17" (I suppose...) is $69.99.

Wally World has them at at like $85...

I may just surprise myself on Christmas morning!

A bunch of those “dealers” sign up just so they can get discounts product for their friends and family. Everybody is a Yeti dealer around here.  I saw a tow truck company that was a Yeti dealer a couple months ago.

I have four platinum dealers and two dozen gold dealers within 50 miles. The two closest Ace Hardware stores are gold. Have to check and see if they carry Rockwood yet. My favorite store is Eggs by the Bay (Smitty the Smoker) but I haven't been buying much in the way of accessories lately. Have to give him a visit. He sure puts on a great Eggfest.
XL BGE in San Jose, CA. Also a Pit Barrel Cooker, a Cal Flame P4 gasser, and lots of toys including the first ever Flame Boss 300 in the wild. And a new Flame Boss 500.

I was in a real ACE hardware (St Simonds Island) and not only do they have a large BGE display, but also a corner of the store is devoted to cooking including accessories and sauces. They also carry Weber. Rockwood was thirty plus a bag. On the island, an employee told me, everybody has to own an egg.

Ace by me carries a nice selection. Scaled back a little in the winter to make room for other items, but typically (9 months out of the year) they have one of every size up to an XL on display plus some more in the back. They also have a good selection of Webers and Traeger pellet grills, accessories for all, rubs and sauces. Usually have 4 types of lump...Frontier (which is ok in my opinion), BGE, Wicked Good and now Rockwood.

By comparison I have another Ace about 10 miles away that doesn't have a single Egg in the store. BUT, there is a grocery store that stocks BGE about 1 mile from that Ace, so I guess they dont want to compete.

My local Ace is where I got my first egg and they dedicate about 1/4 of their floor space to Eggs and Eggcessories.

Interesting - my neighbors' son has a large planation style home on St Simonds Island and told me as recently as this summer that he has only seen one BGE down there.

My two local Aces have converted from Big Green Egg to Kamado Joe dealers the last two years.

I frequent my local Ace here in the midwest as well as the Ace on San Juan Island, WA.  Both carry a full line of Weber and BGE pits and accessories.  My understanding is that they are independently owned but affiliated with Ace therefore free to stock whatever inventory they choose.
Blessed are the flexible for they shall not get bent out of shape.

Yes each ace is independently owned, except the 125 or so Westlake stores that are owned by Ace corp.  All stock a basic group of items, then they're free to carry whatever else they want.  They can order tens of thousands of items from the Ace warehouse.  They cater to their clientele.  Some are neighborhood hardware stores, some are geared to contractors, some are lumber yards, and some are now groceries and pharmacies.  Just depends if they want to carry Bge or not.  Much like my product, Ace corporate encourages them to carry BGE if they have the market for it.  Ours is on the initial truckload to stock to each new store.
