An Early XL Christmas

Got a rare Tuesday morning phone call from my mother in-law asking me to stop by in the next day or 2 to help her get something out of the back of her car. Confused and a bit frustrated that she didn’t call her own son (my brother in-law) who lives 5 mins away, I told her to give me a few days and I would make the 1.5 hr drive up there. Well, this is what she needed help with...

My 2nd XL!! Now, the question is: Flame Boss or Smobot?? I’d be curious to see what the crew here thinks. As always, thanks for the input and Merry Christmas!

This part is OT but, while I’m at it, can anyone tell me about the bench the egg is sitting on? I picked it up from one of my customers when they moved into an old wire and cable manufacturing plant. It’s obviously for filling and emptying gas cylinders, as evidenced by the regulators, hoses (not picutred) and the fill/empty lever on the front. I grabbed it because it’s got a solid 2” think maple top and a heavy metal base. I’ve never seen one like it before. Here’s another, closer pic, if it helps. With some of the stuff I’ve seen on the forum, I figured this might be the perfect group for such a question..

In-laws bought you an XL... I'm speechless

Better to be lucky than good any day. I'm sure you burned your thoughts after the discovery. Can't comment on the controller but you should be dancin' in the streets.Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period.

Man...that is awesome! I can't comment on the FB, but I just bought a SMOBOT and it worked well during an 18 hr cook at 225.
Pros: No fan/blower required, easy set up, USB battery pack option, cheaper (I bought mine 20% off), comes with a pit probe and 2 meat probes.
Cons: Web interface is meh, no alarm setting (but I just read Curtis is planning the beta app launch in Jan-ish)...if they can get a good app going, that will be nice. Good luck!Located Middle GA

Nice score! Merry Christmas. You have a ton of real estate now. The FB gets my vote.

Score! Both on the inlaws and the new XL.
My last Christmas gift from the in-laws was a subscription to a lowrider mini pickup magazine. I never understood her gifts.Phoenix -
