She made the trip from Florida

well finally found it for sale in Florida. And was just delivered safely tonight. A little bit of cleaning up and it will look pretty again.

    Very cool!

Don't tell your problems to people.  80% of people don't care and 20% are glad you have them.

Nice find. Hope you will post some pics of the rehab and future cooks.
  • NO i have no intentions of cooking on it. Maybe one fire just to clean off some of the build up and then it will get a full restore. Depending on how clear the firering and fire box turn out, it may get new ones.

And then im thinking about powdercoating a nest and the bands, a color(still debating) just to do something different but keep the egg "original"  Im leaning towards a white nest and bands for a clean look, or towards an orange band and nest to keep with the Florida gator theme that they were made for. "

Not seen in the photo is the blue ceramic cap, and blue feet.

  • it was sitting in a table and the owner decided to paint the table a cream or white and you can see some of the paint dripped onto the egg. I think it should come off easily.

I agree. Seems like a shame to not cook on it, if only a rack of ribs every so often.

Because only 190-200 of them were made back in 2000 and with my luck one fire would be the "one" that cracks it.

I understand that I suppose, but a pristine blue egg that just sits there serves the same purpose as one that is cracked if it is not used.
Your egg of course, therefore you get to use it, or just look at it and dust it ocassionally, however you see fit.
I have a friend with a 1956 Ford show truck. It is spotless, rebuilt every nut and bolt, chrome, 460 hp resto-mod with modern suspension and ostrich leather seats. He trailers it to car shows.
If it was mine, I would drive it more often than I polished it, but, it is not mine.
Enjoy the blue egg. If it was mine I would drive it. It is not mine.

i can understand that completely. i guess some things when only made in limited quantity are hard or near impossible to replace. unlike a vehicle that 10's of 1000s were made. Yes not in same condition as a restored one, but could be found and restored again.

Is the blue egg worth anything more than a new large egg, realistically not, maybe even less due to the age and not having a warranty on it.

But like you said to each their own, Some collect stamps, some cars, Right now im collecting rare Eggs, just need the blue Chiminea and ill be happy.

Enjoy your collection. This blue egg is a great addition. Never knew they made a blue chimnea. That must be really rare.

Sweet.  If has value above what a new egg costs, I'd buy a new egg and consider it an investment.
