Shipping Smoked Hams

I need advice from the collective. My wife wants me to do a couple of double smoked hams and ship them from Texas to California. If they are frozen, what’s the best way to box and ship them? Is it practical? I know SRF ships frozen briskets but I have never ordered one so I don’t know how they are packaged.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Large BGE & Mini Max for the wok. A few old camp Dutch ovens and a wood fired oven. LSG 24” cabinet offset smoker. There are a few paella pans and a Patagonia cross in the barn. A curing chamber for bacterial transformation of meats...
"Bourbon slushies. Sure you can cook on the BGE without them, but why would you?"

Freeze, maybe some dry ice if you think it will be more than a few days.  Pack in Styrofoam cooler and ship 3 days or less.  Cured meats can be outside the ordinary meat safety range.  I see bacon shipped at ambient, for example.

Order some SRF and reuse their packaging. Throw in a small block of dry ice. Win-Win

  • Frozen, in a polystyrene cooler with 3-5#'s dry ice. You can get Dry Ice at most HEB's if you don't have a regular supplier.

You can ship Fedex ground anywhere but Zone 7 & 8 from Texas (which turns out to be Washington, Oregon, parts of Idaho and parts of northern New York).

But that also means you'll need to ship on a Monday or a Tuesday to get them to California before the weekend. If you ship on Wednesday you'll need to ship to a residential address and send it Fedex Home Delivery.

@HoustonEgger Thanks for the tip to ship on Mon/Tues. I would have screwed up.
