Thanksgiving Turkey on the Egg

first time doing my turkey on the egg. Came out great! 325F, only a 12 pounder, for around 3.25 hours indirect with hickory chips. Mixed butter, garlic, rosemary, salt, and pepper together for rub that I also put on the inside of the breast skin. Did the bag of ice on the breasts before eggtime and came out perfectly cooked on inside and crispy on the outside. Gotta love the BGE baby!

Good looking bird! How much smoke flavor did you get?
XL and Medium. Dallas, Texas. -
my son did a spatchcock turkey on his XL that turned out really good and juicy. indirect at ~500 and took right around 1:10.

Did you cook the turkey in the foil pan or the turkey on the grill? Thanks!Auburn, Alabama

I ended up cooking it in the pan on the egg. I wanted to make sure I didn’t loose any of the dripping for gravy. I would have liked to raised the turkey over the pan but didn’t have the right equipment and am not much of a mcgiever like some of this board! Still came out great though.2015 LBGE

@JMCXL - the thought behind the ice deal is to cool the breasts prior to the cook since that meat finishes at a lower temp than the legs/thighs. It works. However, I find that running with the legs to the back of the LBGE also helps as mine runs hotter back there. FWIW-Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period.
