@milesvdustin - Yes, these were $25.99 per lb. for large claws. I always buy the biggest claws I can find.

OT - Stone Crab Season!
Florida Grillin Girl
Posts: 4,986
Don't hate me cause I live here!!
Yep, it's the season for stone crabs here in FL. These were pretty awesome as the first ones of the season always seem to taste the best.
$6 apiece for good sized claws.
Yep, it's still hot here, but stone crab season means that winter is coming, eventually!
Come on down to FL and get some!
Thanks for lookin.

Love it. Color me jealous.

My parents used to live in Key West, and once in a while we'd get stone crabs, and I'm not positive there's anything on this earth that's better than stone crab! I like them MUCH better than lobster, or any other kind of crab I've had. My folks are long gone, and I don't go to Florida anymore, so I don't get stone crab. I sort of hate that Joe's Stone Crab has popularized them in other parts of the country -- they're getting overfished. Keep them SECRET, Faith!
Boy, they sure looked good, though! -
My dad and i had a tradition during fall break to go down and fish during stone crab season. Mostly to eat our weight in crab.
Making me jealous!"Brought to you by bourbon, bacon, and a series of questionable life decisions."

@Theophan - They don't seem to be getting overfished around here. They are sustainable. Here's an interesting article from UF.

If I get crabs, I want them to be stone crabs.

Definitely one of my favorites. We had some over the weekend (third time since season opened on 10/15). I paid $19.99/lb this past weekend for XL claws, which is a good price. Also picked up a box of fresh Louisiana oysters, which were very, very good.Large BGE and MiniMax in St. Petersburg, FL

I bought them at Save on Seafood on 49th St S this past weekend and during the first week of season. Got them at Don's Dock in John's Pass a couple weeks ago. Both places usually have the best prices and freshest claws around.Large BGE and MiniMax in St. Petersburg, FL

Super jealous. Anyone have a reputable source that will deliver quality product without overcharging? Seems a lot of these companies overcharge because of their popularity.Snellville, GA

I'm over here on the east coast. I had them at Papa's Raw Bar here in Light house point and they were the same $6 each of 4 for 20$LG BGE

Has anyone boiled these claws in seafood boil? If so, how did they taste?"You can live in any city in America, but New Orleans is the only city that lives in you."Chris Rose

@Florida Grillin Girl I am definitely within driving distance to Dekalb farmers market. Thank you for that info. Looks like online after delivery it’s about $20 a claw for the large. I’m sure this will be a cheaper route.Snellville, GA
-
@nolan8v - they are already cooked when you buy them. I have egged them for a few minutes to serve them warm, but I am afraid that boiling them again would overcook them. NO BUENO.Happily egging on my original large BGE since 1996... now the owner of 5 eggs. Call me crazy, everyone else does!
