Pork Fried Rice - Wok

Enjoyed this weekend and cooked up some fried rice at the wife's request. Turned out Pretty tasty.

Char siu pork – would normally use ribs but I had some bone in pork chops which I used this time.

Cooked the meat @ 225 for 3 hours

Here is the ingredients for the pork marinade:

  • 5 spice powder
  • garlic powder
  • Bourbon (knob creek)
  • Hoisin sauce
  • Honey

Cooked a couple cups of Rice ahead of time.

Got the egg up to about 600 and got the wok going.

Fried the rice, then added the following:

  • Dried chili peppers
  • Minced garlic
  • Pork
  • Green peas, carrots, and white onion
  • Sesame oil
  • Soy sauce
  • Salt
  • White pepper

Unfortunately, The only pic I took is of when we were about to eat.

That looks really great!  Never heard of bourbon in a fried rice dish, but how can it hurt???  :)
  • That does look good! Did this on the Egg? I have looked at the woks, but have not done much research on them. We have a wok for the kitchen we use a lot. Looks like a nice fried rice!

    It looks good.

I just did fried rice for the first time on the egg tonight.  Mine was meatless, but pork would have been a good addition.  Mine looked similar in terms of the carrots, peas, and onion.  Next time, I will try to char the onion a bit.  I was trying to replicate the only great fried rice that I had in Singapore and It was reasonably close.

Havertyi, I bought the wok and 3-legged spider at the Ceramic Grill Store.  They were relatively cheap.  You also need some gloves to handle the wok which sits just inches over the charcoal.

I have a read a lot of good posts about the Ceramic Grill Store. I need to pick out some items from that site and get them ordered. Thanks for sharing about the wok and 3-legged spider. I looked at the 3-legged spider a few weeks ago on that site too. I need gloves anyway because already burnt some hairs off of my hand trying to check temps. :)
