Smoke and wifi

I have seen comments that the smoke and the wifi controller were too expensive and you could get a system with a controller for a little more. I do not want a fan, after many over nights I do not feel I need it. However I wanted wifi verse Bluetooth or RF. 

9pm tomorrow is the maiden voyage with a 16.78lb brisket from Shane.

  I would go Thermoworks over any other brand at this point.

@fruitguy   I'm with you on that.  No doubt controllers make it easier, and I had one at one point. It took something away from the hobby for me.  Just a personal preference.

If all you want is WiFi to monitor your temps from your phone then The Smoke is the way to go. You just missed out on the open box sale for $79 though. Add the $89 gateway and you would have been all in for $168.

A decent temp control unit is going to cost a lot more than that. Not sure where you could get one for "a little more".

It sounds to me like all you want to do is be able to leave your house during a L&S and monitor your temps in the process. Why not get a Smobot? You can monitor your temps and if something goes awry, make adjustments all from your phone. That's a bonus and you're not using a fan to control the temp.
