Best non-electric lighting method

I use a propane weed torch and occasionally add a starter cube for tougher to light stuff. works well, but does spark up a lot for some brands of fresh charcoal.

I realize I am late to this party.....but having now burned thru 2-1/2 bags of lump in my egg and tried the BGE starter cubes and the paper towels soaked in olive oil or whatever, I find my FAVOURITE lighting method has recently become the little gas mini torch used to do my creme brûlée .......place the torch in three spots in the lump for a minute or so and voila egg is ready for the cook in 15 to 20 mins easy and no annoying smoke to deal with at all. Quick and easy either stand there and hold the little torch or just lay it down just so.

Torch and looftlighter get zero use for me. I like to set starter cubes in place and light them. Takes about five seconds to get them lit, best part is I can do other things while the coals start burning.

Started with oiled paper towels. Then propane torch. Then I had another reason to buy a big azz weed burner and haven't looked back since. You have to be careful when trying to start a small fire for a low and slow, but for anything else and you can go from zero to glowing coals in less than a minute. Also works great in the firepit...and it's fun.

I just bought a 144 box of the rutlands today at tractor supply on sale for 10$ and change

I love fire, but the vegetable oil on paper towel works well enough for me. In my case with the flame-throwers, I'm sure ignorance is bliss.Stillwater, MN

Salado TX & 30A FL: Egg Family: 3 Large and a very well used Mini, added a Mini Max when they came out (I'm good for now). Just given a Mini to add to the herd.

Are we really still talking about how to start a fire? I though we figured this out a few years ago...

I may be the only one, but I have been using a Bison Airlighter recently. I don't know how long you are at your cabin, but charge it before you leave, fill it with butane (bring extra) and it's good for 8-10 starts depending on how long you use it.
