fired egg at 7 and placed putt at 250 grate temp at 8:00. 1 hour later the butt is at 93 degrees. Is that normal? It seems like its gotten up pretty quickly. It was 50 degrees when i put it on.

Also the grate temp (per flameboss) is at 250 and the dome temp reads 300. Shouldn't the dome temp be lower? I understand the dome thermometer may not be calibrated, but is it possible the FlameBoss is set higher than 250 (bad clip thermometer)?Cooking on a LBGE and MM down in Miami, FL.

Nothing out of the ordinary. Don't worry it will slow down and hit a stall. You still have a long way to go.

Throw the clip on the thermometer stem and see what kind of reading you get. That's where I clip my thermometer when using a controller."The pig is an amazing animal. You feed a pig an apple and it makes bacon. Let's see Michael Phelps do that" - Jim Gaffigan

yes the temp on the controller matched (within 5 deg) the dome thermometer when i clipped to the stem. I think what happened was that i initially clipped to the grate above the drip pan which must have been alot colder... as a result the fan was working to get temp up to 250.... but outside of the drip pan it was closer to 300. I have left the therm clipped to the dome and now the temp is dropping to 250. Thanks for the advice.Cooking on a LBGE and MM down in Miami, FL.

Regarding the "dome thermometer may not be calibrated" statement-that is something you can take care of in less than 5 minutes. There are thermal gradients inside the BGE just like your oven. Pick a calibrated temp and learn how your BGE works with that indication and press on. FWIW-Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period.
