My wife's Honda CRV had a vibration we thought might be the tranny last week. We use the dealer to service and it's not needed much in 75K miles. They found a problem with the ABS system, $1100 job and covered it out of warranty by 15K miles and she had a loaner car the whole time. Blew my mind, any of the big 3 US makers would have told us to pony up. We didn't ask or expect any warranty work and they went to bat for us with Honda and covered it on their own. We own Honda and Toyota now for reliability and quality they are known for, this just lets us know we've made the right decision.
On a similar note, my Honda dealership paid for an Enterprise rental for the few hours it took to replace my airbags.

My F-250 gasser started running rough like the timing was borked. Took it to the dealer and paid $95 for their so-called "diagnosis." They quoted me $3,500 to replace the timing chain tensioners, cam phasers, VVT solenoids, timing chain, and labor.

Found a local Ford truck guru who charged me $360 to replace both VVT solenoids and the truck is running better than it ever has. Needless to say he has earned my business for the life of my truck, and the next one.

The good ol gut feel.  Somewhat related to Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart's famous quote: "I shall not today attempt further to define the kinds of material I understand to be embraced within that shorthand description ["hard-core pornography"], and perhaps I could never succeed in intelligibly doing so. But I know it when I see it,"

When they do that, it's a decision by Honda, not the dealership (most of the time).  Honda foots the bill.   It means the problem is a statistical outlier on the make/model, and they're mitigating a recall.  Basically a corporate "mea culpa" (aka "my bad").  Most of these types issues are safety related.   Or maybe I made all that up.
