As most of you know by now, The Coop is no more. The structure is still there, but most of the Chicken Ranch items, including all but two of the 'Girls' are gone. The new owners were left with two Eggs so they could start out as Eggheads.
For those of you who never saw it or just want to take a stroll down Memory Lane, here's the last video tour I made of it nine months ago.

Meanwhile, we packed everything and headed east to Covington, Louisiana where we're building a new house. While it is being built, Spring Hen and I are living in Temporary House, an old but comfortable cottage along the banks of the Bogue Falaya River, which eventually joins another river and flows into Lake Pontchartrain.
Historically, General Andrew Jackson used this route on his way from Mobile to New Orleans for the Battle of New Orleans in 1814 and early 1815. Had he not won that battle, we would all be speaking English now.
We expect to be here up to six months, so it was necessary to install two of the remaining 'Girls' Lola Large and Shirley Small, out near the old pump house so they could work. The other 'Girl' Mini-Maxine, was brought onto the porch closer to the kitchen and placed in the porch fireplace. Oddly, she likes it there and performs well when called upon.
We refer to their respective assigned spots as the Temporary Coop in an effort to maintain the 'temporary' nature of their assignment.
Here are some photos of Temporary Coop at Temporary House.
I've cooked bread, smoked a turkey breast, seared pork chops, made pizzas, and a few other things with success. They may be out of their element for now, but they still know how to ply their trade and talents.
We miss the Old Coop but the new adventure we're on is one that we've been looking forward to for years. There's already a New Coop in the plans, and the floor for it will be poured next week along with the rest of the house. We think you will like the new one a lot. I know we will.

We are impractical Midwesterners who spent money on a boat and lake house 17 years ago. Somehow we get more than two months use tops out of them each year. Photo is of the Akorn Jr. because today's lunch cook didn't necessiate using the Egg.

Nah. I haven't had any issues with staining. It's open on 3 sides and I have a ceiling fan for circulation too.-FATC1TY
