Saw this plant growing along my fence line when it was small.  At first I thought it was a pepper of some sorts so I dug it up & put in a pot. It has clusters of small berry like fruit.  Gave some to my neighbor to have with his oatmeal so he can be the canary in the coal mine.  Anyone know what this is...gave up on pepper so now leaning towards weed. Hmmm...haven't seen that neighbor in a few days.

Looks like a Nightshade to me, which I believe the berries are poison.

  • Check out listings for black nightshade.  There are a few different varities and I'm no expert so I can't tell you if you'll ever see your neighbor again. :s

Nightshade it is...guess I'll let the large caterpillars feed on it and turn it into a science experiment for the little one.

Stray growth in any environment = weed (non-smoking variety).  Asphalt is no issue for them-solid concrete slabs do work wonders however.
    BTW-great neighborly thing to do...
Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win.  Life is too short for light/lite beer!  Seems I'm livin in a transitional period.

It was the placement along the fence line where the birds perch is why it was questioned.  Kinda like why do most blackberries grow along a fence line?

Neighbors fine...take more than a few poisonous berries to kill that ornery SOB.  Trust me...we have tried.  Maybe my Grannies mistletoe stew recipe will do the trick.

Found these on the nightshade so going to put them in the Little one's Butterfly Habitat and let her watch the transformation.  We already did the Lady Bugs and she had Painted Lady Butterflys...these are looking like giant moths, but she'll come down every morning and check on em unless of course the neighbor eats them  =).

Thanks for ID'g and now that I see they burrow in the ground to pupate they will be eradicated unless a wasp happens to parasitize them.

Toss it in a can or jar with some kosher salt.   They love that so much they celebrate by getting all foamy.
    Love you bro!
