Plate setter CI OR CERAMIC

last year I dropped my PS and broke a leg off, I was able to repair it using Baker Lock (similar to JB Weld)  it's worked like a champ for low and slows but has a heat rating around 400F  I believe. I'm wanting to try some pizza cooks but I don't think the PS is gonna stay together. I think I'm gonna replace it. What's your thoughts on the Cast Iron PS?

I got the CI after my ceramic cracked, and am happy with it. It is heavier for sure. I'm a little leary of some of the ceramics, I've now had to replace the firebox twice, and  the plate setter cracked. I have not ever put burgers, etc on top, I've pretty much used it legs up all the time.

If you are replacing it anyway, it might be a great time to check out an adjustable rig at ceramicgrillstore.com.  My R&B Combo took my Egg to a completely new level and allows all types of additional cooking options, in addition to added real estate.  Quality products.

check out the alternatives from ceramic grill store - much more versatile than standard platesetter.

In cooking, often we implement steps for which we have no explanations other than ‘that’s what everybody else does’ or ‘that’s what I have been told.’  Dare to think for yourself.

I just had the same thing happen. I went with the R&B combo adjustable rig. I am thrilled. More cooking space more options for raised direct. I love it.

  • I wanted a CI platesetter for a while, but would imagine that the higher heat cooks would strip the seasoning very  frequently. Unseasoned CI is rusty CI. To me, the benefit of the CI platesetter is in the ability to cook directly on the surface - something that can easily be achieved with a CI pan.

Yes! Check out Ceramic Grill Store, great stuff and prices. I bought a spider and 2 half moon stones for my XL. Very versatile.
