Foodways 2018 Camp Brisket Information
While our Barbecue Summer Camp takes a broad approach to barbecue cookery and culture in Texas and beyond, Camp Brisket focuses on that iconic Texas smoked meat, the humble brisket, covering topics such as grades/types of beef, types of smokers, wrapping or not wrapping the brisket, and much more.
Attendees will receive direction from professors in the Meat Science Section of the Department of Animal Science at Texas A&M University, as well as hear from pitmasters from around the state of Texas regarding some of their basic techniques. Read about past camps here and here.
Barbecue camps are open to Foodways Texas members only. If you are not a member, follow this two-step process for a chance to attend Camp Brisket 2018.
1) Become a member by Friday, July 9, 2017. You can become a member today right here: Membership Info
2) Wait for an instruction email from us and register for the 2018 Camp Brisket drawing. Registration begins July 17, 2017 (all members will receive registration instructions during the week of July 10th).

Looks like a great time. But is it worth the $500 fee (and no boat ride) to enter for a 'chance' to get invited? Any idea what the odds of getting selected are?Snellville, GA

@Eggdicted_Dawgfan - the $500 is for the event. Here's a section from their link of their membership costs:
"...Membership is available at the following rates and levels:
$25 students $75 individuals $100 families
$200 non-profit institutions/artisans $500 corporations* * Event benefits extend to all employees of the corporation..."There are a couple of posters here who attend this past January. I don't think either of them got selected their first year of membership but I could be wrong. FYI-
Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period. -
Interesting. That seems much more reasonable. I do remember a thread here and it looked like a great event. I think we are going to look into this. Thanks for the added info Lou.Snellville, GA

@lousubcap is correct - on the costs, it's just the $75 to be a Foodways member. Then if you get selected, it's the $495 fee for the event.
I didn't get selected my first year, had to wait for my second year before I got into the BBQ Camp, then made it to Brisket Camp.Formerly of Houston, TX - Now Located in Bastrop, TX
